Architect Designer

ARCHITECT / DESIGNER

JOB DUTIES

Work closely and under the preliminary direction and supervision of licensed architects to perform the following duties:

1. Prepare detailed drawings of architectural and structural features of buildings for construction, utilizing extensive knowledge of construction documentation and detailing conventions.

2. Use knowledge of building materials, engineering practices, mathematics and computer software to complete drawings.

3. Comprehensively work on digital model residential and commercial projects with complex geometries and intricate details.

4. Produce speculative drawings for exhibitions and publications using technical drawing skills, ability and sensibility with composition, and line weight and color theory skills.

5. Advance the office’s ongoing design research into complex geometry and building construction, which requires a familiarity with contemporary architectural theory, technology and academic culture.

6. Build physical models through a combination of handcraft and computer-numerically-controlled fabrication such as laser cutting, milling and 3D-printing. These duties rely on both traditional wood and paper model-making skills (precisely
drafting, cutting, folding, gluing, painting) and experience with digital fabrication machinery (understand how the machines work and appropriate safety precautions, the software needed to translate models into files the machines
can read, and the ability to assemble and finish the fabricated elements).

7. Correspond with contractors and consultants via phone, email and in person.

8. Work independently with strong problem solving skills when managing projects with significant autonomy.

9. Conduct site visits as needed.
